July 7 - 12, 2013. While unloading the bikes from the roof rack, I discovered that my brakes were toast - burnt toast. I don't know if it was from my last wreck, the torque from the bike rack lifting off my car or if it was just time, but my front brake refused to work. I drove to a bicycle shop and the mechanic eased me into the realization that my Scwhinn S-10, a hard-working downhill full suspension from 1998 that had carried me through numerous creeks, up and down rocky hills, and thrown me over the handle bars a time or two, needed to be put to rest. So with a good deal on fixing the Yakima roof racks, a full-suspension rental for Nick for downhilling at the ski slopes later in the week, and a lot more debt on my credit card, I was off with my brand new 2013 TREK Lush, a 15.5" women's frame full suspension. Nick and I cycled around the lake and rode a little single-track. In the afternoons, we relaxed: napping, writing, drawing and reading. Super windy at times. The storms come in the evenings and once it rained almost all night. Still, the weather allowed us to roast marshmallows around the fire.
